Rama Ghata

Balarama, after going to Mathura with Krishna, returned from Mathura and stayed here for two months. Balarama performed the rasa dance here. There is a Balarama Temple here with a beautiful Deity of Balarama. This temple is known as the Dauji Temple. Not many people visit this place because it is very secluded.

Nityananda Prabhu stayed here several days while he toured Braja Mandala.

After being out of Vrindavana for a while, Balarama decided to return to see His father and mother, Nanda Maharaja and Yasoda. He first greeted the residences of Vrindavana and then He met with the gopis. For two months He spent every night with them in the forest of Vrindavana.
One night Lord Balarama became very blissful after drinking some Varuni beverage. He then asked the Yamuna to come nearer. The Yamuna refused, thinking He was intoxicated. Balarama then became very angry and became to scrape the earth with His plow to bring the river closer to Him. The Yamuna being afraid then came and surrendered to Balarama and admitted her fault. Lord Balarama forgave her. Because of being scraped by Balarama’s plow, the Yamuna river still has branches at this place.

Kacchavana is near Rama Ghata. The cowherd boys used to play as kac
a (turtles) here.

How To Get Here This ghata is near the town of Shergarh, on the bank on the Yamuna. This place is about 19km (12 miles) north of Vrindavana. To drive here you first get on the Delhi-Agra Road going north towards Delhi. You drive about 20 minutes and make a right and go to Shergarh. Rama Ghata is by itself, on the bank of the Yamuna, about a km (¾ miles) from the town of Shergarh. People did not know this place by the name Rama Ghata, but they knew the Dauji (Balarama) temple by the Yamuna. There are only fields around the temple here.
